A Wise Word
“It’s not our job to close the sale when we talk to people. Our job is to put a pebble in their shoe.”
(Christian apologist Gregory Koukl)
The Pebble in the Shoe Principle
I often pray, “Use me today Lord, and You don’t have to tell me about it.”
So the idea of being a heavenly “pebble-placer” makes me smile. Because a pebble inside your shoe is such a little thing. Yet it has to be dealt with. You can’t ignore it. Most people sit and empty their shoe right away.
Becoming a born-again Christian is a process, and each of us can play a small part in drawing the lost to Christ. The Holy Spirit uses many things to reveal God’s loving nature to those who don’t know Him.
Paul said it best;
6 I planted the seed and Apollos watered it. But God is the one who made the seed grow. 7 So the one who plants is not important, and the one who waters is not important. Only God is important, because he is the one who makes things grow.. (1 Corinthians 3:6-7 ERV)
Not My Job
I’m not the Holy Spirit. It isn’t up to me to convict the unbeliever of sin and I can’t suddenly fill the lost with soul-saving faith.
But maybe my words will destroy a hidden lie they believe. Or get them to notice God in a new way.
Place a metaphorical “pebble in a shoe?”
Yes, maybe we can all do that.
