Always the Lion

Jesus’ True NatureAn Asiatic male lion, native to India, walking in the snow.

Our Lord came the first time as a lamb and meekly acted like one, but don’t be fooled. Underneath Jesus has always been the lion. (M.H. Puccini)

Everywhere in the Scriptures Jesus is pictured as the Lamb or the Good Shepherd. Only once is He called “the Lion of Judah.” Yet in the gospels there are several times where His lion nature, full of power and authority, reveals itself. For instance, rebuking the storm on the Sea of Galilee. Or cursing the fig tree, causing it to wither. Or calling Lazarus to walk out of the tomb.

The Lion of Judah

In Revelations, John the Apostle is weeping because no one in Heaven is found worthy to take the scroll and open the seals.

Then one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping. Look! The mighty Lion of Judah’s tribe, the root of David—he has conquered! He is the worthy one who can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelations 5:5 TPT – The Passion Translation)

John looked up and saw a slain lamb who took the scroll from His Father’s hand. By the time Jesus had broken the sixth seal in chapter 6, everyone was seeking to hide from God’s wrath.

16 They called out to the mountains and the boulders, saying, “Fall on us at once! Hide us quickly from the glorious face of the one seated on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?” (Revelations 6:16 TPT)

During the end times, people won’t panic because of the angry Lion of Judah. No, instead they will flee the wrath of the Lamb.
