Billy Graham’s Unanswered Prayers

The Golf Course

The only time my prayers are never answered is on the golf course. (Billy Graham)

I enjoy Graham’s gentle sense of humor.

Of course we must remember that this is only one man’s experience. My advice? If you’re a Christian golfer and really need that hole-in-one, go ahead and pray anyway.

After all, it can’t hurt.

My Spiritual Point

When I was a young Christian, I trusted that God would answer my prayers if a more mature Christian student prayed with me. Why? Because I was terrified of faith verses, like James 1.

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  (James 1:6-7 NIV)

I had begun my spiritual journey, but I didn’t know the Lord very well yet. So my faith was weak. But I strongly believed one thing; the Almighty would answer my friend’s prayers on my behalf. But then one day, I had a family crisis so private, I couldn’t share it. It was just between me and God. My level of faith? I only had faith enough to ask.

But I didn’t believe my prayer would be answered.

Imagine my stunned surprise when my Heavenly Father came through.

Here is a meme I created years ago. I hope it encourages you.

Sometimes we have the faith to move mountains and sometimes our level of faith won’t even move dust. Let’s pray even when our faith feels microscopic. After all, microscopic faith is still faith and the Almighty has a tender heart toward His children. (M.H. Puccini)

Editor’s Note: Since I believe the Bible is inspired by God and the Holy Spirit has used different passages and verses to powerfully change my life, I also believe the truth of James 1:6-7. It’s true too and some day I’ll understand it in a deeper way.
