Setting Us Free of the Past

A Personal Question

A person in a parka, standing in an ice cave, looking toward the entrance.

Here’s a question every angry man and woman needs to consider: how long are you going to allow people you don’t even like – people who are no longer in your life, maybe even people who aren’t alive anymore – to control your life? How long? (Andy Stanley)

The Key to Healing

Forgiving our enemies is meant to bless us, not those who hurt us. It is Jesus’ great key to emotional healing. He modeled it on the cross.

And no, in His agony, Jesus didn’t feel like forgiving either.

But He did.

Author’s Note

We normally see anger and hatred as red-hot emotions, but I like this image of the ice cave. The woman is trapped in a bitter, cold, barren wasteland. She’s standing frozen in place, yet the entrance promises a world of warmth and sunlight.

If she chooses to exit the cave, she’ll be free.

But she has to decide to leave her icy prison forever.
