Stubbornness is not a Sin

Stubbornness Done Right

A beach by a turquoise sea.

Stubbornness is not a sin. Just be stubborn in the right direction. (M. H. Puccini)

Anyone who seeks to do something great for the Lord has to be stubborn.

There’s only one type of Christian who faces persecution. That’s the believer who will not cave under the pressure of threats or intimidation. He or she will still continue to walk the path the Holy Spirit has placed them on.

  • Daniel insisted on praying to the God of Heaven and was thrown into the lion’s den.
  • Joseph refused to sleep with his master’s wife and got thrown into jail.
  • Jesus spoke life-changing truth, even to his enemies, and got nailed to a cross.

I don’t think it’s courage. Instead, I think it’s the fear of the Lord.

The Spiritual Point

In Romans 3, the Bible speaks of the wicked in this way:

“Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.”
15 “Their feet are swift to shed blood;
16 ruin and misery mark their ways,
17 and the way of peace they do not know.”
18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.” (Romans 3:14-18 NIV)

I’ve often thought that the people who turn up in schools or nightclubs with assault weapons and kill several strangers are deceived. They think if they commit suicide immediately afterwards, there will be no consequences. They’re wrong. Unrepentant, they each will stand before Christ. and be judged. Then spend eternity in Hell.

My fear of God is greater than that.

What deepens our fear of the Lord, and makes it stronger?
