Author’s note: The role of Kryptonite in this post was played by the mineral Fluorite, also known as Fluospar. I chose this rock because of it’s green color. Sadly, neither Superman nor the mineral Kryptonite are real.
The good news? “Krypton” exists—but not as a planet. It’s one of the Noble Gases (Kr) listed in the periodic table. This gas was discovered in 1898 by two chemists and the name comes from the Greek word kryptos, meaning “hidden.”
