It’s not the length of your prayers, it’s who you’re praying to.
Sometimes short prayers work better.
What’s an Arrow Prayer?
An arrow prayer is quick, because it’s usually just one sentence, but it can be a strong way to pray. One example in Scripture? Jesus’ teaching about the Pharisee and the tax collector in the temple (Luke 18:9-14).
The tax collector prayed an arrow prayer which pleased God.
God, have mercy on me, a sinner.
My Personal Favorites
Here are three arrow prayers I frequently fire toward Heaven.
1. “Lord, use me today and you don’t have to tell me about it.” Why? Because I can’t be tempted to become proud if Jesus uses me when I’m not looking.
2. “Let Your truth and Your light conquer.”
- In our universities and schools.
- During the election.
- Over my nation.
- In my fellow Christians’ lives.
- Within my own heart.
The Father of lies is very active in my culture right now. I’ve never seen the Devil so successful. Recently, I came across the above sentence in a prayer letter and have been echoing it back to God ever since.
I’m also smart enough to realize that while I’m aware of the many deceptions other Americans have sold themselves to, I can’t see the lies I’m believing. So in the past year, I’ve become passionate about becoming a Godly woman of truth.
Because every lie we fall for helps Satan’s agenda.
3. “Lord, help me share my faith easily and often.” Evangelism is something I struggle with; I’m very awkward. So this arrow prayer invites God to change me inside as He often has before.
Those are 3 of my favorite arrow prayers. What are yours?
I downloaded the image of the giant shark and the parachutist from Pixabay.com. It’s the perfect illustration; because during a crisis we usually don’t have a lot of time.
