We Need Heaven-sent Revival

His Revival Changes Us

A old-fashioned pocket watch and chain, half buried in the sand.

“When God-given, Heaven-sent revival does come, it will undo in weeks the damage that blasphemous modernism has taken years to build.” Leonard Ravenhill

A Man-made Revival

I’ve been to several revival meetings that church leaders sponsored

During a man-made revival

  • An evangelist or pastor decides to host a revival meeting.
  • The church staff schedules a time and place.
  • Advertisements appear on the radio, TV and social media.
  • People pass out fliers.
  • Christians are encouraged to invite unsaved friends and family members.

The goal? Fire up the Christians spiritually and get sinners saved. Everyone ramps up the energy. In a good, man-made revival, the atmosphere is a little exciting.

Normally the Christians go home feeling great and a handful of people give their lives to Christ.

But that’s not the kind of revival I’m hungry for.

I’m hungry for a revival that originates in the Almighty’s heart.

It’s the difference between fishing with Jesus and fishing without Him.

A Fishing Analogy

A group of men might proclaim loudly,

“Let’s go catch some fish!”

These guys can have expert knowledge about which bait to use. Carry the latest sonar equipment on the boat. Know the best places and times to fish.

Many professional fishermen have the desire, the skill, the equipment and the knowledge. Yet they can fish all day and not even catch a minnow.

But when ‘the fishing trip’ is Jesus’ idea?

Then the catch of fish is so great the boats begin to sink.

When the Revival Meeting is God’s Idea

A few times in history, a Heaven-sent revival has happened. The Almighty begins moving. Spiritually speaking, “the earth begins to tremble.” Unbelievers happily blasphemous and hostile toward Christianity suddenly fall under the Holy Spirit’s devastating conviction. The weight of their sin crushes them emotionally. The Devil’s delusion that ‘sin is fun’ evaporates.

Soon the unsaved population of the town starts desperately pounding on the church’s doors seeking relief from their overwhelming guilt. The conversions too are often on a much deeper level.

Historically, when people come to Christ during a God-sponsored revival, the crime rate drastically drops. Compassion starts flowing toward the broken. Liquor and illegal drug sales dry up. Alcohol gets poured down the drain. Prostitutes get set free from a life on the streets.

The impact on the whole society is life-altering, because the Almighty does what we cannot do.

So I want to be part of a God-given revival.

How about you?
